Inserting

To place a new object on the base plate, a certain sequence of actions is performed, which are broadly described here. In doing this one is always faced with the question of whether the same goal may not be more easily achieved with the copy of an already existing object.

Set origin (optional)

If you needs to assign the object to an exact position with its placement, it may be necessary to move the origin of the current front panel to that point, from which the object in question was dimensioned, for example, to one of the corners of the main plate (detailed description of the various methods of setting the origin).

Select object

A new object is created either a) as a copy of an existing object or b) by selecting from the list of available objects, whereby the object can either be selected from the Insert menu or from the appropriate icon on the toolbar.

Place selected element

When you select an element for the new object, an icon bar opens from which you must choose one of five ways of determining the coordinates of the reference point of a new object:

1.Determining the coordinates by mouse click (result depends on the setting "Align on grid")
2.Enter the coordinates into a dialog box which subsequently opens with the keyboard
3.Taking over the coordinates of the reference point of an already existing object
4.Taking over the coordinates of the reference point of an already existing object plus a defined offset
5.Taking over the coordinates of one of nine predetermined points on the main plate

You will find details of these five methods of determining the coordinates of the reference point of a new object in the chapter "Flexible Origin".

Customize object properties

Immediately after determining the coordinates of the reference point of a new object, a dialog box opens for the definition of its properties. This dialog box and the options associated with it are described in detail in the chapter "Design elements".
